World's Fattest Woman (700 lbs)

Terri Smith, 49, a 700-pound woman has been pinned in her sleeping room, incapable to move, stand or roll across by herself - adjusting the fresh world record as the Fattest woman. She suffers severe headaches and needs an MRI scan to check out for a potential brain tumor, unfortunately she became also too big to fit in a scanner or to pass through the doors of a hospital.

Terry has never been a delicate female child. At the age of 7, she weighed almost 70 kilograms. The woman explained that her family was poor, which did not allow for her parents to afford healthy foods. At the age of twenty, Terry weighed about 120 kilograms. Terri wedded husband Myron, whom she looks up to as her guardian spirit, in 1986. At the age of 32 she built up severe arthritis in her knees and was incapable of walking more than a couple of steps at one time. Smith was lastly given an electric wheelchair to get around in. The lack of physical exercise and not having modified her eating habits caused her weight balloon to the point where she could barely stand. Then around 2007 a change in her medicine caused her to gain 91 pounds in 30 days. Those pounds forced her to the bed ridden state she has been in ever since. (Link)

World's Fattest Contortionist (400 lbs)

With the ability to press his soles to his cheeks, turn himself into a human dart board, and dislocate his shoulders to escape from a straitjacket, Matt Alaeddine's résumé reads more like a medical examiner's report. Couple that with his sizable mass — well over 400 pounds — and the city comic and contortionist has found a ticket around the world, securing him a place in the infamous Jim Rose Circus. Founded in the '90s, the circus features extreme, often masochistic onstage acts involving everything from sword swallowing to genital lifts.

Alaeddine, 30, is one of three Edmontonians in the American troupe of pain-loving freaks. He started doing contortion as a street performer at the Edmonton Fringe Festival about 10 years ago. When performing his contortions, Alaeddine stuffs his rolling hillsides into a gold nylon suit labelled “one size fits all” that he bought from the women's section of a hipster-friendly clothing store.”(Via)

The Armless Motorcycle Rider

A motorcyclist received a caution from police officers in China - for riding with no arms. Officers in Jimo, Shandong province, stopped the motorcycle for being overloaded - but were shocked when they saw the driver, reports the Qilu Evening Post. Liu, 27, lost both arms at the age of seven after an electric shock. When he was 10, his parents sent him to a local circus to learn skills, and from then on, he trained himself to ride a motorcycle without arms. Liu admitted that he had been riding his adapted motorcycle for 10 years without arms - and he didn't even have a license. He said the circus where he worked had closed down three years ago and he and two other disabled circus workers had been performing on the streets ever since. Police decided against fining him because he didn't have any money but issued him a serious warning. Liu promised them he would not ride motorbikes again.  (Link)

The man who climbed the Great Wall of China

A man who lost his legs in a train accident climbed the Great Wall of China in 2006. Huang Jianming from China's southern city of Shenzhen had both legs amputated in 1994, after he fell out of a speeding train carriage. Measuring 85 centimeters in height and weighing 39 kilograms, Huang calls himself a "half man," since he has become half the size of an average person due to his accident. He climbed the Great Wall for two hours by using the sheer strength of his arms, pushing himself up the cobblestoned steps in front of hundreds of bemused tourists.

The accident totally changed Huang's life. Without legs, his wife deserted him when he lost his livelihood, but the man from China's Sichuan province remained determined to live a normal life. He began practicing calligraphy and became a traveling street artist, roving through more than 20 Chinese cities in ten years.

"I hope when these tourists see me, a half man, climbing the Great Wall and enjoying being a real man, they will think about themselves."

The wrestler with only one leg who became a national champion

Anthony Robles of Arizona State University has only one leg, but that didn't stop him from becoming the national champion in his weight class. Born with one leg, Robles took the 125-pound title with a 7-1 win over defending champion Matt McDonough of Iowa. Robles' three-day performance earned him the Outstanding Wrestler award. He took control in the first period, jumping out to a 7-0 lead with a two-point takedown and two turns that exposed McDonough's shoulders to the mat for five more points. Robles uses his gripping power on those turns. “My tilting is due because I have such a strong grip, and that's because of my crutches,” he said.(Link | Via)

World's Fattest Nation (Nauru)

Nauru is the world's fattest country, with an average BMI of 34 to 35. Located in the south Pacific, it is the smallest island nation with a population of less than 10,000. Obesity has grown as a result of the importation of Western foods paid for with proceeds from phosphate mining. The most popular dish is fried chicken and cola.(Link)

The Sleeping Tiger Optical Illusion

The tree branches and rocks that magnificently portray approaching tiger, aren’t the only illusion willustration’s picture hides!

We presume how the Premonition Poster, or maybe Hidden Baby illusion must’ve played significant role in author’s inspiration. Just how many tigers do you think there are altogether in this marvelous drawing?

Leaving the obvious sleeping beast aside, and ignoring the marvelous approaching one for few moments, try and spot if there is something else you haven’t noticed at first!

Electrocuted US man gets new face

BOSTON: A young man horrifically injured by an electric shock while working in a cherry picker has successfully received the United States' first full face transplant, a Boston hospital said Monday.

Dallas Wiens, 25, can look forward to a new life with a donated face attached last week by a 30-strong team at Brigham and Women's Hospital, which said it was "the first full face transplant" performed in the country.

Although plastic surgeons could not restore Wiens's sight, he is otherwise on the road to recovery and already chatting, the lead doctor, Bohdan Pomahac, told a press conference.

"He's awake and talking on a cell phone," he said.

"Today's tremendous news marks a new milestone in Brigham and Women's legacy in transplant surgery. The pioneering achievement by the entire transplant team is a gift made possible by the most selfless act one human being can do for another: organ donation," hospital president Betsy Nable said.

Wiens, from Texas, was injured in November 2008 when his head touched a high voltage electrical wire when he was working in a cherry picker, an extendable work platform used by builders. The burns literally erased his face.

Pomahac led the team of physicians, nurses and anesthesiologists for over 15 hours to replace Wiens's "nose, lips, facial skin, muscles of facial animation and the nerves that power them to provide sensation," a statement said.

The $300,000 cost of the operation was met by the US Department of Defense as part of research into aiding severely wounded service personnel.

Wiens's grandfather, Del Peterson, effusively thanked doctors for their surgical marathon.

"You have made this day an amazing journey. And you have blessed Dallas's life and we thank you," he said.

"Dallas always said after the injury that he now had a choice: he could just choose to get bitter, or choose to get better. His choice was to get better. Thank God today he's better."

This was the second face transplant the hospital has done in the last four years. A partial transplant was performed on James Maki, who fell on the electrified rail in a Boston subway station and severely burned most of his face.

Pomahac, flanked by the rest of his team, said the prognosis for patients in such ground-breaking operations was good.

"I am happy to report that Jim Maki, our first face transplant recipient is doing great and we're confident that Dallas is on a similar course," he said. (AFP)

Designer’s Optical Illusion Clothes

Many people in fashion look for clothing items that will make them look thinner. Example dress that Victoria Beckham wore recently (on some sort of event) has an illusion feeling that makes her look EVEN thinner (as paradox as this sounds). Her dress was designed by a designer called Alexander McQueen, and was originally featured in Daily Mail, a British newspaper agency. This is a cleaver yet simple trick that uses black and white lines to create the illusion, which is effective at giving the wearer the look of having a minuscule waist. It works because of the white silhouette that runs down the middle being very thin and then pops out at the hips and breasts.

World youngest grandmother in Romania

BUCHAREST: The woman, just 25 years old insists that she is the youngest grandmother in the world... becoming a grandmother for the first time at the ripe old age of 23!

Ridca Stanescu of Romania gave birth to her daughter Maria when she was only 12 years old herself, and expressed that she wanted better for her daughter. Instead, daughter Maria followed in her mothers footsteps at age 11 and gave birth to a baby boy.

In the Romanian gypsy culture marrying young is not something out of the blue, but Ridca wanted a better life for her own daughter, as most parents do.

Before Ridca, the worlds youngest Grandmother was an unnamed 26-year-old from Rotheram, Yorkshire, whose 12-year-old daughter gave birth in 1999.

Running Snakes Promo

Tomato Kosir and Wolfgang Gosch used the famous optical illusion by Akiyoshi Kitaoka , and combined it with Galileo Galilei’s saying “Eppur si muove” (and yet it does turn). The finished product was then used as a presentation poster for the 9th Festival of Slovenian Film. I believe most of you have already stumbled upon Rotating Snakes illusion in one way or another, yet I couldn’t resist posting this high res photo showing the effect in its full glory!

Duck or a Rabbit?

Another strange conclusion I have come up with: I noticed that no matter how hard I try putting complex photos made in real life, the best response I get from my visitors is when I publish simplest optical illusion images. Don’t get me wrong, this makes me real happy, because I finally understand that all you want is effective illusion, not all the bling-bling-shiny photos. Please correct me if I’m wrong! Or comment why do you think that happens. Arturo Hornedo submitted this nice Rabbit Duck. Which one is it? Can you see both? If you like it, don’t miss Horse Frog, Liar Illusion, Fish Girl, before and after six beers, double meaning pictures, love shirt, in the city, jazz musician, old young lady… more in multiple meanings category!

Men Who Stare at Goats

Those of you who had the opportunity to see a recent Hollywood movie Men Who Stare at Goats, will recognize the title almost immediately! Basically it’s a comedy about special U.S. Army unit, that employs paranormal powers in their missions. Kevin Spacey played a role of a skeptic, making laugh of their trainings. You should check the YouTube clip , But let’s return to the illusion photo posted for today. It would be much funnier if I cropped the image, and only posted the section containing shadow. Then presented you with a solution in our next step. However, I avoided this because many you have “Illusion of The Day” widget installed, and it could possibly give you somewhat trouble having pair of boobs appearing on your desktop. Then again, maybe I’m overprotective to you guys… Anyway, think of today’s illusion as a poor excuse to show you the clip responsible for smile on my face!

These butterflies are known as Greta Oto and are members of the clearwing clade. Due to their beautiful transparent wings, they are also called glasswing or espejitos (“little mirrors”).
